The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a study tour to Cinnamon Wild Yala Hotel on 4th December 2024. The tour, conducted under the subjects Tourism Entrepreneurship, Social and Green Entrepreneurship, and Venture Strategies, aimed to provide 3000-level undergraduates majoring in Entrepreneurship with practical exposure to tourism, social, and green business opportunities in Sri Lanka. Students explored eco-tourism models, sustainable practices, and innovative business strategies through interactive sessions with hotel management and field activities. This hands-on experience bridged classroom learning with real- world applications, fostering critical thinking and inspiring sustainable entrepreneurial practices.

The Outbound Training Program, held on 6th December 2024 at the university premises, was organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit. Designed for 2000-level undergraduates in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, the program aimed to enhance leadership skills and foster personal growth.
Utilizing an experiential learning approach, the training emphasized engaging activities and enjoyable experiences to promote learning. The program focused on key organizational competencies, including building self-confidence, personality development, teamwork, and effective communication, equipping students with essential skills for their academic andprofessional journeys.

Boosting Research Efficiency: Zotero Workshop

The Department of Human Resource Management organized a workshop titled 'Mastering Zotero' to empower 3000-level HRM specialized undergraduates with essential research skills. The session was held on December 18th, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Faculty Computer Lab. Dr. K.G. Priyashantha, Senior Lecturer attached to the Department of Human Resource Management expertly guided this valuable session. The session provided a comprehensive overview of Zotero by covering Zotero Fundamentals, Advanced Zotero Features, Citation Management & Integration, and Data Management & Collaboration.
This workshop aimed to equip undergraduates with the necessary skills to efficiently utilize Zotero and streamline their research workflows. By mastering Zotero, participants gained valuable skills to enhance their research productivity, improve the accuracy of their citations, and ultimately strengthen their academic endeavors.

The Department of Business Management recently completed an enriching and highly successful field visit, offering students a unique opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to real-world business operations. Organized by the Circle of Business Management under the guidance of department lecturers, the visit took place on 30th December 2024 and included tours of three prominent organizations, providing students with invaluable insights into diverse industrial processes.

The visit commenced at the Koggala BOI Zone, where students explored the operations of two leading companies: Star Garments Pvt Ltd. and Ocean Voyager Pvt Ltd. At Star Garments, students delved into the intricacies of the apparel production chain, gaining a deeper understanding of the manufacturing processes involved in the garment industry. Meanwhile, Ocean Voyager Pvt Ltd. offered a fascinating look into boat manufacturing, showcasing the complexities of this specialized sector.More

The Department of Business Management successfully organized a highly engaging and collaborative brainstorming session as part of the practical requirements for the Creativity and Innovation module, designed for its 2000-level students. The session, held on 1st January 2024 at MFLT 05, marked the first in a series of planned activities aimed at fostering practical exposure and innovative thinking among students.
This unique session brought together students from two distinct disciplines: 2000-level Business Management students and final-year students from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture. The interdisciplinary collaboration provided a dynamic platform for participants to exchange ideas, explore creative solutions, and gain insights from diverse perspectives. More

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of the Head and esteemed members of the academic of the Department of Human Resource Management. The HRD Circle, a distinguished body dedicated to advancing professional growth and development within the Human Resources domain, consistently strives for innovation and excellence. Mr. W.A.S.M. The Circle of Human Resource Development in collaboration with the Department of Human Resource Management successfully organized the "Yum Yard" Food Stall at the University premises on the 12th and 13th of December 2024 from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Student teams demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment to fulfilling the demands of this two-day event. Among the culinary highlights was the authentic taste of "Hoppers," which proved a resounding success with a diverse clientele, solidifying its reputation as a crowd favorite. Other popular offerings included delectable ice cream, Nescafe, and chickpeas. Beyond serving delectable treats, this student-led initiative served as a valuable platform for fundraising, with proceeds earmarked for future student development programs.

The English Club of the Department of Human Resource Management successfully hosted its first annual grand event, UNIFIARA 2024, focusing on 'Unity and Environmental Consciousness,' offering a platform for students to showcase their linguistic, creative, and artistic talents. A key highlight of the program was the dynamic group performances in Drama, Singing, and Role-Play, showcasing students' abilities to combine English language skills with teamwork and creativity. Additionally, the ceremony included the presentation of awards to winners of online competitions, such as Creative Writing (Poem, Story, and Essay Writing) and Speech Competitions, which were conducted prior to the event. Dr. Jayarani Ramawickrama, the Head of the Department of HRM, together with academic staff presented awards to the winners. The dedication of President Ms. Nethmi Perera and the other office bearers, under the guidance of the Club’s Senior Treasurer, Dr. Hemamali Ganewatta, and the generous sponsorship from LTL Galvanizers Ltd, was crucial to the event’s success. This milestone event set a high standard for future initiatives by the English Club and demonstrated the team spirit of students in fostering creativity, unity, and enthusiasm for organizing activities in English, inspiring greater engagement with the language within the university community.

International Conference on Management and Economics

ICME 2025, under the theme of “Entrepreneurial Bricolage: Steering Volatile Markets through Improvised Strategies and Innovative Thinking,” aims to create a forum for academics, researchers, and practitioners across the globe to debate and share their knowledge on business institutes, particularly related to the ongoing global recession and their impact on the economy and contemporary management practices.

20th Academic Sessions And 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony

Academic Sessions is an annual forum organized by University of Ruhuna to share research findings of staff and students. The 20th Academic Sessions and 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony will be hosted by Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna in 2023. under the theme of “Intellectual and Entrepreneurial Thrust for a Resilient and Progressive Society”.  The Organizing Committee invites Abstracts and Extended Abstracts for oral/ poster presentations for the technical sessions. The submissions are limited to Academic/ Academic Supportive/ Administrative/ Non-Academic staff and students of the University of Ruhuna.

Idea Cloud 2022

Idea Cloud is a business start-up idea competition where tertiary education students and school level students can pitch their innovative ideas that provide solutions for social and economic development in Sri Lanka as one of the efforts of the faculty is organized annually. Idea Cloud 2022 is the fourth consecutive year in which Idea Cloud will be rolled out. The competition is organized to be held with parallel to the International Conference on Management and Economics (ICME 2022). 

The main purpose of this competition is to promote and develop entrepreneurial and innovative attitudes and behavior in students. In this competition, the ideas can be new business models, startups, infrastructural modifications, or products which is the outcome of greater creative and innovative efforts of young generation.  Applicants from State higher educational institutes and School level (ordinary level and advanced level students) are invited to send their self-prepared proposals via e-mail together with your name, contact details to ideacloud@mgt.ruh.ac.lk on or before 15th June 2022. Selected Finalists will be provided with the opportunity to present their ideas before a renowned panel of entrepreneurs and academia.

Faculty Day 2022

Faculty Day is a tradition that has been continuing in the faculty for the past years which is aimed at building a strong relationship between the academic members, students, academic supportive staff and non-academic staff. The faculty organizes the event with the support of Physical Education Unit and the Sports Advisory Board of the University of Ruhuna. The 2022 faculty day intends to provide a fruitful opportunity to the faculty to enjoy a day filled with entertaining events and sports.
