Our University

The University of Ruhuna is one of the leading universities in Sri Lanka. The University of Ruhuna was established by a special Presidential Decree on 1st September 1978 as Ruhuna University college fulfilling a long cherished desire of the people of Southern Sri Lanka.

Our Faculty

The Faculty of Management and Finance was established in 2003. At present, it is one of the foremost faculties consisting of four Departments of studies namely Department of Entrepreneurship, Department of Human Resource, Department of Accounting and Finance and Department of Marketing, in addition to the computer unit and the e-learning centre. At present Faculty offers courses in a range of disciplines leading to Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)Honours degrees.


The students are provided with a friendly learning environment which encourages them to excel in one's field of study, and to achieve one's goals while maintaining strong personal relationships. The students are allow to exploit opportunities to engage in co-curricular activities at local and International levels.

ICME 2019

Faculty of Management and Finance , University of Ruhuna, one of the leading management faculties in Sri Lanka annually organizes the International Conference on Management and Economics (ICME) with the objective of creating a strong platform for academics, researchers and practitioners to exchange their knowledge in the field of Management and Economics.

Digital Disruption 2019

There will be brainstorming speeches with the intention of expanding the awareness on the concept, fueling up creativity and innovativeness to promote more opportunity creators than job seekers and real-life inspirational stories of entrepreneurs who expand the boundaries.

ADCON 2019

An advertising competition organized by the department of marketing, Faculty of Management and finance, University of Ruhuna which will enable the participants to bring out the hidden creativity within them.

Milad-Un-Nabi - The bridge of reconciliation virtual celebration was held on 19 th October 2021 from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm via zoom. Dr (Mrs.) M.B.F. Mafasiya, Senior Lecturer, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, and Mr. M.N.M. Nismi, Senior Lecturer, Department of Marketing participated as Chief Guests of the event. The event consisted of several cultural and entertaining items presented by the undergraduates. The Head, Department of Human Resource Management, lecturers, and students of the Faculty of Management and Finance participated to this session organized by the Circle of Human Resource Development.

Be a Job Creator, Not a Seeker

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship always attempts to change the mindset of our undergraduates through changing their traditional and common job seeking behavior into job creating behavior. In future, we believe that our undergraduates should be able to provide many other employment opportunities for the unemployed people in the society at large, rather than seeking to work for someone else. To motivate them on behalf of this matter, we warmly invited Mr.Mohan Palliyagru, a renowned corporate trainer and a motivational speaker to conduct a session to our undergraduates. Amidst the pandemic, we were able to hold this program successfully via Zoom, with the participation of more than 300 students on 8 th October 2021 at 9.00 a.m.

Marketing Content

The Circle of Marketing has planned to conduct a series of guest lectures, namely 'Digital Edge 2.0' under the theme of 'Digitalize with Experts', to provide students with a practical perspective to digitalization and its implications on marketing. The very first guest lecture of the Digital Edge 2.0 was conducted on 25th October 2021 from 5.00 pm onwards via Zoom, with the participation of marketing major undergraduates at the faculty. The session was centered around 'Introduction to Digital Marketing' and continued for one hour, with the active involvement of the participants. The guest speaker, Mr. Nisal De Silva, Director of Digital Strategy at Cinnamon Hotels, a certified digital lecturer in Sri Lanka, shared his expertise and experiences on the latest technologies in the context of digital marketing, making the session fruitful.

On & Above HRIS : HRIS Solution Analysis Adaptation & Managing Change

On & Above HRIS : HRIS Solution Analysis Adaptation & Managing Change

Department of Human Resource Management and  MintHRM collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on HRIS “On and Above HRIS-Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and fourth-year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The seventh session was held on the 13th of October 2021 from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm via zoom. The resource person of the session was the Co-Founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. Lecturers of the Department of HRM and more than 125 pre-registered students in the Department of HRM have participated in the session.

International Conference on Management and Economics

ICME 2021, under the theme of “Embracing Change and Recalibrating Business & Economics in a Post-Pandemic Context”. aims to create a forum for academics, researchers, and practitioners across the globe to debate and share their knowledge on business institutes and its impact on the economy and contemporary management practices.


Idea Cloud 2021

Idea Cloud 2021 is a renowned business start-up idea competition for tertiary education students, held with the objective of creating a platform to pitch creative and innovative ideas with a worthwhile contribution to rebuilding the economy and enhancing the linkage between idea generators and the industry, by the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, for the 3 rd consecutive year.

Participants are encouraged to submit innovative ideas of the following nature: new business models, startups, infrastructural modifications, or products. The submitted initial ideas will be evaluated for their contribution, originality, and feasibility in two rounds: the preliminary and the final. The three best ideas will be rewarded at the end of the final round with great celebration in the presence of a distinguished audience.
