Outbound Training Program- 2024

The Outbound Training Program (OBT) with a Bonfire Night was an action and activity-based behavioral training intervention for HRM-specialized undergraduates, organized by the Circle of Human Resource Development, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit. It was held on the 23rd of October 2024 from 6.00 am to 10.00 pm at the university premises. The program was hosted by Ms. Pubudu Mallawarachchi, Career Guidance Counselor from the Career Guidance Unit, with the morning physical session led by Ms. Dilupa Priyadarshani, Instructor in Physical Education from the Physical Education Unit, University of Ruhuna. more

Poson Palette 2024 – Inter-Faculty Online Artwork Competition

The Circle of Human Resource Development (CHRD) of the Department of HRM organized Palette-2024, an online art competition with the theme "Natural Radiance of Poson". This competition attracted a wide range of artworks from undergraduates at the University of Ruhuna. The objective of the event was to provide a platform for students to showcase their artistic talents and encourage reflection on the spiritual significance of Poson Poya, as well as improve their mental wellness. Workshop on Financial Reporting: Enhancing Transparency and Decision-Making

On 10th July 2024, the Department of Finance organized an insightful online (Zoom) workshop on Financial Reporting. The session was conducted by Professor A.R. Ajward from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and was coordinated by Mr. Kasun Harshana, Lecturer (Probationary).
42 students specializing in finance participated in the session. The workshop successfully equipped participants with a comprehensive understanding of financial reporting principles and standards. It emphasized the importance of transparency in financial reporting, highlighting its impact on stakeholder trust and confidence. Additionally, the session covered the latest trends and challengesin financial reporting, including regulatory changes and technological advancements.

Knowledge Sharing Session on Examination Matters

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the faculty organized a knowledge-sharing session on examination matters for faculty staff on 21.02.2024 from 9.00 am to 11.00 am at the New Faculty Board Room. The session aimed to enhance understanding of the revised examination manual and best practices of examinations and related procedures. Prof. Manjula K. Wanniarachchige, Prof. P.A.P. Samantha Kumara and Mr. K.G.P.V. Vijitha Gunarathna served as the resource persons for the session and shared their expertise on various aspects of examinations, including revised examination manual, effective question paper setting and marking techniques and maintaining integrity and transparency in examination processes. Researcher Boost session for Early Career Academic Staff

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the faculty hosted a Researcher Boost session specifically designed to empower and support early career academic staff on 21.02.2024 from 1.00 pm to 3.30 pm at the New Faculty Board Room. This engaging session provided valuable insights and resources to help early career researchers navigate the initial stages of their research careers and thrive in their academic endeavours. Dr. Thedushika De Silva, Chairperson – IQAC served as the resource for the session and shared her expertise in publishing quality journals and supportive strategies for young academics. The session fostered a sense of collaboration, networking with peers and exchanging research ideas through interactive role plays and discussions on navigating their research journey. This initiative demonstrated the faculty’s commitment to supporting and guiding early-career academic staff and empowering them to contribute significantly to the academic landscape.

Field Visit -2024

The Department of Human Resource Management organized a one-day field visit on the 8 th of February 2024, for 3000-level HRM Specialization students of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The students visited Bodyline (Pvt) Ltd, a joint venture of MAS Holdings which is one of the largest apparel sector organizations in the South Asian Region that has nearly 8000 workforces. The organization has an unbreakable reputation for its application of standard HR practices and a sustainable working environment. The other destination organization was PGP Glass Ceylon PLC, the only glass manufacturing companyin Sri Lanka with a rich history of over 60 years. Read More

Green Givers

A group of first-year students from the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna organized a project called "Green Givers," under the guidance of the Department of Marketing. It was a beach cleaning initiative that was held on 21st of January 2024 at Matara beach. The main objectives of this project were to contribute to the preservation of the environment and encourage community involvement

 
Open Heart Banquet

Open Heart Banquet

A group of first-year undergraduates from the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, organized the "Open Heart Banquet" almsgiving program. The event took place on 30th December 2023, at the Cancer Ward of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. Students provided breakfast for the patients undergoing treatment at the Karapitiya Cancer Hospital. Additionally, they provided essential supplies to the Ruhunu Lama Niwasaya in Galle.

ICME 2024, under the theme of “Entrepreneurial Renaissance: Nurturing Innovation For Economic Revitalization,” aims to create a forum for academics, researchers, and practitioners across the globe to debate and share their knowledge on business institutes, particularly related to the ongoing global recession and their impact on the economy and contemporary management practices.

20th Academic Sessions And 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony

Academic Sessions is an annual forum organized by University of Ruhuna to share research findings of staff and students. The 20th Academic Sessions and 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony will be hosted by Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna in 2023. under the theme of “Intellectual and Entrepreneurial Thrust for a Resilient and Progressive Society”.  The Organizing Committee invites Abstracts and Extended Abstracts for oral/ poster presentations for the technical sessions. The submissions are limited to Academic/ Academic Supportive/ Administrative/ Non-Academic staff and students of the University of Ruhuna.

Idea Cloud 2022

Idea Cloud is a business start-up idea competition where tertiary education students and school level students can pitch their innovative ideas that provide solutions for social and economic development in Sri Lanka as one of the efforts of the faculty is organized annually. Idea Cloud 2022 is the fourth consecutive year in which Idea Cloud will be rolled out. The competition is organized to be held with parallel to the International Conference on Management and Economics (ICME 2022). 

The main purpose of this competition is to promote and develop entrepreneurial and innovative attitudes and behavior in students. In this competition, the ideas can be new business models, startups, infrastructural modifications, or products which is the outcome of greater creative and innovative efforts of young generation.  Applicants from State higher educational institutes and School level (ordinary level and advanced level students) are invited to send their self-prepared proposals via e-mail together with your name, contact details to ideacloud@mgt.ruh.ac.lk on or before 15th June 2022. Selected Finalists will be provided with the opportunity to present their ideas before a renowned panel of entrepreneurs and academia.

Faculty Day 2022

Faculty Day is a tradition that has been continuing in the faculty for the past years which is aimed at building a strong relationship between the academic members, students, academic supportive staff and non-academic staff. The faculty organizes the event with the support of Physical Education Unit and the Sports Advisory Board of the University of Ruhuna. The 2022 faculty day intends to provide a fruitful opportunity to the faculty to enjoy a day filled with entertaining events and sports.
