The second edition of ‘’BITES 101 ‘’, a vibrant street food festival that tantalized taste buds and entertained crowds, was organized by the 2019/2020 batch of the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. This event was successfully held on 17th January 2024 from 5:00 p.m. onwards at the faculty premises.
The event boasted a diverse array of delicious offerings, partnering with external vendors, and attendees embarked on a delectable journey, indulging in a variety of cuisines and flavors. Beyond the delectable spread, BITES 101 weaved a tapestry of captivating entertainment to elevate the experience, featuring guest artists Visula Madusara, Naduni Yameesha, Vidula Ravishara, Malindu Chathuranga, and Idunil Wijekoon (Man Saranna). This dynamic combination of culinary delights and enthralling entertainment created an unforgettable experience for all who attended.
A group of first year students from the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna organized the "Suwa Sahana" initiative on 19th January 2024. The children undergoing medical treatment in the children's ward of Matara General Hospital were provided with gift boxes, food, and essential medical supplies by the students.

Kokila Rawaya – 2023 was successfully held on 24 th of April 2023 from 10.00 am onwards near the university gymnasium. The Entrepreneurship study circle organized this event on which academics, non-academics, and undergraduates are participated to this event. The objective of organizing the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival by undergraduates is to celebrate and promote cultural diversity, unity, and inclusivity within the university community. The festival aims to provide an opportunity for students to showcase and share the rich traditions, customs, and heritage of the Sinhala and Tamil cultures.
The conference carried 10 technical sessions including Entrepreneurship, Economics, Agri-Business Management and Public Policy, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Marketing Management and Tourism, HRM and OB, Accounting and Finance, Education and two Undergraduate Research Forums. It was further glamoured by the ‘Idea Cloud’ competition among inter-university students and a ‘Business Forum’ to elevate the cooperative sector of Sri Lanka.
The Faculty of Management and Finance takes pride in concluding the conference successfully and leaving a powerful message of its potential for collective knowledge sharing and collaboration.
A workshop on Social and Green Entrepreneurship, organized by the Department of
Management and Entrepreneurship was held on 1st of December, 2022 at the MFLT 3A from 09.00 a.m. for 3000 level Entrepreneurship specialized students. The workshop provided participants with an understanding of theoretical and practical knowledge on solving social problems at a systemic level using innovative, sustainable, scalable, inclusive and measurable approaches. Mr. Sanath Vidanagamage, CEO at Institute of Growth Concept, was the resource person of the workshop. He was able to make the session more interactive and interesting.
To develop undergraduates’ leadership skills and outgoing personalities Department of Human Resource Management organized a two-day Out Bound Training (OBT) program in collaboration with Career Cell, Faculty of Management and Finance. This training program was facilitated by the Career Guidance Unit, University of Ruhuna. The program was held on 8 th and 9 th November 2022 at university premises and 2000-level and 3000-level HRM specialized undergraduates participated. At the end of the 1 st day of the OBT program bonfire night was held and Prof. E.P.S. Chandana, Deputy Vice-chancellor of the University of Ruhuna graced thisoccasion as a chief guest.
For assist undergraduates to design their internship resume effectively, Department of
Management and Entrepreneurship organized a guest lecture on “Preparing CV aiming to apply Internship” for 4000 level undergraduates who are reading for BBA honors degree program. Session was held on 6 th September 2022 from 4.00 PM via Zoom. Session was conducted by Ms. Onandi Wijayarathne, Lecturer (Probationary), Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna.
The certificate distribution ceremony of “Imagines-2022” the first ever inter faculty mobile photography competition organized by the Department of Marketing was held on 1 st of November 2022 in Board Room, Faculty of Management and Finance.
Primarily, the competition was carried out in three categories namely, Nature, Color of Life, and University of Ruhuna. The judge panel of “Imagines 2022” was consisted with Dr. A.C. Karunarathna, Senior Lecturer, Department of Marketing, Mr. Sanju Rangodage, Professional Photographer, and Mr. Pumuditha Jayasinghe, Professional Photographer. Mr. T.T. Isuru Lakmal Fernando and Mr.W.G.I.S. Senarathne of the Faculty of Management and Finance won first places in the Nature Category, followed by Ms. Hashini Tharuka of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences A.Y.N.H. Tharushika and K.D. Dileesha Nayomi of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences secured first and second places, respectively, in theColor of Life category. Mr. T.T. Isuru Lakmal Fernando of the Faculty of Management and Finance won the first place in the category of University of Ruhuna.
Department of Human Resource Management organized a personality development workshop under the theme of “Renewing Identity”. It was held on 02 nd February 2022 at MFLT 02 from 01.00 pm onwards. Second year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates were participated to shape up their personalities and enhance their passion to performing better in the industrial world. The resource person of the session was the well experienced Corporate Trainer Mr. Athula Kithsiri. Head of

The Circle of Marketing organized a webinar on "Ethics and the Banking Industry" on 26 th July, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mr. Nuwan Pathirana, Manager, CSR and Corporate Sustainability of Sampath Bank PLC, led the workshop. In this forum for the dissemination of knowledge, he emphasized the importance of marketing ethics to organizations and how marketing students might enter the industry as ethical marketers.
Retired Senior Lecturer Dr. R. M. Ratnayaka's felicitation ceremony was held on 24th January 2022 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm at MFLT 02 lecture theater, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The Entrepreneurship Study Circle is in the process of conducting a series of webinars via Zoom by inviting different experts from diverse industries. The 1st session of this series was conducted successfully on 03rd November 2021 at 4.00 pm, with the participation of a young couple; Mr. Kasun and Mrs. Chamari Deegoda Gamage as chief guests who are able to create a difference in social media utilization in an attractive manner with a YouTube channel called "Travel with Wife". This program especially focused on 2000 level semester 2 and 3000 level semester 2 students specialized in Entrepreneurship. The ultimate objective of this program is to guide them to be successful entrepreneurs who can make a positive change in the society.
The Department of Finance organized a training program in collaboration with PW Holdings on Sage Business Cloud Accounting. Mr. Channa Wanigaisnghe, Systems Consultant at PW Holdings conducted the training program as the resource person. Two groups of students participated in the training which was scheduled into 10 sessions for each group. The certificate awarding ceremony was held on 22 nd December 2021 to award certificates to 81 students who have completed the training program. Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered a speech highlighting the necessity of such training programs to enhance the employability of the graduates. Pahlevansharif, Editor-in-Chief/Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Administration, Head of Research/Faculty of Business & Law, Taylor’s University, Malaysia. The session was coordinated by Dr. G.T. Wasantha Sriyani, the SDC coordinator of the Faculty of Management and Finance, and was helpful for participants to understand how to create a solid first impression for a journal’s Editor-in-Chief.
"Lead and Inspire", an internship experience sharing session was organized by the Circle of Marketing, to all the final year undergraduates on 8 th of June 2022 from 6.30 p.m onwards via zoom platform. Mr.Daishika Dias, Miss.Lakeesha Gamage, Mr.Yasas Kanaheraarachchi and Miss Minuri Samarathunge served as the resource persons of the session. They shared their experience on how to be an effective intern by balancing both academic and career life.
The second workshop on the proposed Bachelor of Business Administration in
International Business Degree program was held on 08 th of October 2020 from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon at the Conference Hall, Chinese Center, University of Ruhuna,with the participation of nearly 20 academics from the Faculty of Management and Finance. The workshop was targeted at allowing participants to bring their inputs into the development of the proposed degree program, and mapping the intended learning outcomes of the each course unit with the program learning outcomes.

The 2 nd guest lecture of ‘Digital Edge 2.0: Digitalize with Experts’ was conducted on 27th October 2021 from 4.00 – 5.30 pm via Zoom, with the participation of nearly 100 marketing undergraduates at the faculty. The session focused on practical applications to achieve and decipher results on Facebook and Instagram for clients. Ms. Nalinka Ratnavibushana, the Managing Director of Mentation Media (Pvt) Ltd, a reputed figure with an enormous experience in the field served as the guest speaker of the session. She provided some interesting insights into Facebook/Instagram campaign planning and effective content designing, assisting students to learn something of importance.
The Circle of Marketing, University of Ruhuna, in collaboration with SLIM Business School Matara, recently had the honor of hosting an enlightening session on the 10th of January at the faculty lecture hall on "The Role of Marketing Communication in Managing Brands." The Circle of Marketing organized a webinar on “Ethics, the Case of Finance Industry” on 29th July, 2022, from 2.00pm to 3.00pm via Zoom platform. Mr. Jithendra Gunatilake, Head of Compliance, LOLC Finance PLC led the workshop. ‘Value of Professional Integrity’ is an experience sharing session organized by the Department of Human Resource Management, held on 30th May 2022 from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm via zoom. The session was opened for the undergraduates in the Department of Human Resources Management. Mr. Daya Karunitha Wimalasuriya who is the Senior Project and Portfolio Manager of City of Surrey, BC Canada acted as the resource person. In the session resource person emphasized on how important it is to maintain a professional and personal integrity while reviewing the key points that are essential as a fresher to enter in to the job market. It was a fruitful and stimulating session with descriptive illustrations.

The session was held on 11 th July 2022 from 7.30 am to 9.30 am via Zoom. Dr J.W. Dushan Chaminda, Senior Lecturer, Department of Marketing Management, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura shared his knowledge & expertise in this session. By aiming to give a psychologically refreshing experience to undergraduates as they move away from online education into a new beginning and for identifying students’ talents and bringing them to move forward, Circle of Human Resource Development organized the “Sarasabhiwandana” Poson devotional songs program. To mark Poson Poya 2022, “Sarasabhiwandana” was held on 21 st June 2022 from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm at the Faculty of Management Finance lecture theatre 4. In this program, by representing every batch of the Faculty of Management and Finance student groups performed and shared cultural and spiritual experiences with all by remembering the merits of the Lord of Buddha religiously.
In line with the HRM 22413- Safety and Health Management subject, The Department of Human Resource Management organized a guest lecture on " Health and safety management practices in an organizational context. The session was organized with the purpose of providing the knowledge and understanding of 2000-level human resource management specialized undergraduates regarding how health and safety management practice in a real organizational setting. ‘Leadership Training - 2022’ was an activity based behavioral training intervention for students leadership and personality development based on experiential learning methodology of learning through fun and experience. Session was organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship in collaboration of Career Guidance Unit held on 04th November 2022 from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm in the university premises. The session was targeted for the 2000 level and 3000 level undergraduates in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. The main focus with the leadership training program was to impart learning on organizational needs such as to improve self- confidence, Personality development, Team Building and Effective Communication.

The Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna marked another significantm milestone in its journey with the official establishment of two new departments, the Department of Business Management and the Department of Finance. The inauguration ceremony was held on the 06 th of October 2022. This prestigious ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Professor Saman Chandana, by the cordial invitation of the heads of the two new departments of the Faculty of Management and Finance, headed by the Dean, Professor P.A.P. Samantha Kumara. The Registrar, the Acting Librarian, the Heads of other departments of the Faculty of Management and Finance, academics, and other administrative staff were present at the ceremony. The Head of the Department of Business Management, Dr. T.R. Wijesundara, the Head of the Department of Finance, Dr. Manjula K. Wanniarachchige, and the Organizing Committee extend their warm gratitude to all parties who supported to conclude the inauguration ceremony successfully.

He shared his knowledge about the planning and execution of events, which will be useful for marketing undergraduates who are entering the job market.

The review process for the cluster of three degree programmes; Honours in Entrepreneurship, Honours in Human Resource Management, and Honours in Marketing was conducted from 27th of August 2018 to 30th of August 2018. The cluster obtained grade “A”, which is considered to be the top grade in the rankings system. Further, the BBA Honours in Accounting was reviewed separately from 13th of August 2018 to 16th of August 2018 and obtained grade “B”.
The final year marketing undergraduates had the opportunity to experience a three days field visit on Tourism Development, organized by the Circle of Marketing in coordination with Ruhunu Tourist Bureau on 1st, 2nd and 03rd of August 2018. Through participating the field visit to Hambantota District, students had a chance to see tourism, hospitality and leisure ‘in action’, and developing a proposal for practitioners on how to better reap the potential in the field drawing upon insights from the concepts learnt in the classroom.

The main objective of this session was to raise awareness among our final year students about the vast array of resources available through the electronic library, thereby facilitating their dissertation writing process. The resource person shared his extensive knowledge and experience in this area enriched the session and provided the students with a comprehensive understanding of the tools and techniques required for effective academic writing.
For enhancing the students’ knowledge on Qualitative Research, under the subject of HRM 41403 – Data Analysis for Research, Department of Human Resource Management organizes Qualitative Research and Data Analysis guest lecture series. “Professional Wedding Planning and New Trends in Wedding Planning” was the second session of the Event Marketing guest lecture series organized by the Circle of Marketing. The session was held on 12 th July 2022 from 8.00 a.m. onwards via Zoom platform. Mr. Majith Priyanga, owner of A 2 Z Wedding Planners Pvt. Ltd. was the resource person of the session. It was an engaging and productive session for all the marketing undergraduates.
The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship always attempts to change the mindset of our undergraduates through changing their traditional and common job seeking behavior into job creating behavior. In future, we believe that our undergraduates should be able to provide many other employment opportunities for the unemployed people in the society at large, rather than seeking to work for someone else. To motivate them on behalf of this matter, we warmly invited Mr.Mohan Palliyagru, a renowned corporate trainer and a motivational speaker to conduct a msession to our undergraduates on 27 th July 2023 from 6.30 PM onwards. The first session of the Branding workshop organized by the Department of Marketing was held on 5 th January 2021 from 3.00 P.M onwards via zoom. The session was carried out on the topic of “The journey towards building a strong brand: The experience sharing forum”. Mr. Lakmal Weerasiri (Laka) who is the founder and managing director of Sanity Creation- Lakai Sikai was the resource person of this session. As social media plays a critical role in today’s communication, building a strong brand and maintaining in for a long period of time is challenging. From this session students got the opportunity to listen to interesting facts with reference to building and marinating a strong brand in social media.
Coffee Evening group discussion series, 1st phase successfully held on 11th of July 2021 from 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm via zoom. Circle of Human Resource Development organized this fruitful group discussion to create a platform for HRM specialized undergraduates to get exposure from former students of the Department of HRM. In this initial session Mr.Suranga Indunil, Mrs. Hiranthi Kalpani, Mrs. Pramuditha Nimashi, Mr.Amila Ambegoda, Ms. Nimesha Kumudumali, Mr.Eranga De Silva, Ms.Rashmi Wickramashinge, and Ms. Bimalka Nanayakkara joined as resource persons. The head, Dr.B.L.Galhena, senior and junior lecturers, and undergraduates of the Department of HRM participated in the session.
The “රසවි - රහට සංගීත වින්දනය” musical program organized by the Department of Business Management as the final event of the “BM Week’22”, to bring many new experiences to the University community, was successfully held on 04th of November from 04.30 p.m. at the Faculty of Management and Finance open theater premises. This new-style, food-based musical entertainment event was organized to enhance student collaboration with departmental works and to uplift and appreciate the aesthetic skills of the university students. The event was rooted based on 12 songs critic by four critics, Prof. P.A.P Samantha Kumara – Dean, Faculty of Management and Finance, Dr. Ven. Ariyawansa Morakandegoda – Senior Lecturer, Department of Sinhala, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Mr. Deepal A.Guruge - Senior Lecturer, Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Management and Finance, and Prof. Jayantha Amarasingha – Professor, Department of Sinhala, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science.
A three-day workshop organized by Dr. M.B.F Mafasiya, Mrs. Sandya Sriyani, and Mrs. Menaka Dilrukshi at the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, under the theme of “Stimulating Undergraduates and Value Creation through Sharing Experiential Learning” for the subjects of Social and Green Entrepreneurship, Venture Strategies, and Tourism and Entrepreneurship was held on 11th, 12th and 13th of March 2020 at the University Guest House. The workshop was basically aimed at providing 3000 level second semester undergraduates with practical exposure to entrepreneurship. Dr. Lalith Welmedage, Mrs. Dilrukshi Wijesekara, and Mr. Sumedha Kulathunga were the resource persons of the session, and they were able to make the environment more conducive.

“Crafting Your Assignment” session held on 16th of June 2021 at 6.00 pm via zoom. The objective of this program was to provide students with a step by step guide in writing assignments in a Bachelor's Degree program. Session hosted by Dr.B.L.Galhena, the Head / Senior Lecturer, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. In the session first Dr.B.L.Galhena explained how to prepare assignments effectively and after that discussed student's clarifications. "Adcon 2019", organized by the Department of Marketing is the first and the foremost inter-university advertising focused competition rolled out by a recognized institution in the country, and the grand finale is to be held in February, 2020. This is going to be the second consecutive time of the event, with the participation of more than 300 undergraduates representing all state universities across the country. Making their objective a reality, “Adcon 2019” has provided these undergraduates a formidable platform to unveil their creativity with an exposure into the corporate sector through the competition. “Adcon 2019” was expected to roll out the competition in two stages, drumming up the grand finale to showcase both the conceptual and the practical knowledge of the selected topnotch contestants and the pinnacle would be followed by a mind-blowing musical extravaganza in collaboration with Unilever Sri Lanka, People’s Bank and the Capital Maharaja Organization Limited.
An online session on “how to use storytelling in your academic research”, organized by the Faculty of Management and Finance (FoMF) together with the Staff Development Centre at University of Ruhuna (UoR) was conducted via Zoom on 11 th of May 2021 from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., with the participation of nearly 70 academics at UoR. Prof. Danture Wickramasinghe, Chair in Management Accounting and the Director of the PhD program in Accounting and Finance at Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, UK served as the resource person while the session was coordinated by Dr. G.T.W. Inter-Faculty Competition in Instrumental &Vocal Music (ICIVM 2020), which is organized by the University of Ruhuna in each consecutive year, calls for candidates to submit their applications on or before 28th of February, 2020. The ICIVM 2020 will offer contestants a wide array of opportunities for both solo and choral singing, thus allowing them to choose upon several options. Based on the focus, as the name of the competition itself suggests, it can be broadly categorized into two separate areas, namely vocal and instrumental. As in the flyer, the vocal and instrumental competitions include a range of individual and group performance items.
A workshop on sensing the career opportunities and setting the career goals, organized by the Career Guidance Unit in collaboration with Sampath Bank is going going to be held on 06th of August, 2018 at the Fisheries Auditorium from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. The workshop is targeted at final year undergraduates at the faculty and, they are requested to bring a well designed CV in attending the workshop. The workshop is to be conducted by an expertise team at Sampath bank Plc. The participation is mandatory for the given target group.
The Entrepreneurship specialization area of the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a special guest lecture on ‘Stimulating Undergraduates towards Entrepreneurship’ for the 2000 and 3000 level students on 14th June at MFLT 08.The resource person was Ms. Ayesha Imalika, the founder CEO of ‘Kewumkokis.com’- Bandaragama. The event was successful in sharing the knowledge and experience of real-world entrepreneurs with future generations.
The “Faculty Day 2020” organized by the Faculty of Management and Finance as an annual event to bring academics, non-academics and undergraduates into a common platform, will be held on 26th of February at university playground. The event will kick off at 8.00 a.m. and will continue till evening, thus providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their skills in various sports and entertainment-related activities. Moreover, this will encourage active involvement of the participants as it provides a platform to break the wheel of monotony for a while. As such, “Faculty Day 2020” will assist everyone to strike a balance between classroom and extra-curricular activities.
“The Power of Ethics in Telecommunication Industry” was another important session of the Marketing Ethics guest lecture series by the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The session was held on 25th July 2022 at 5.00 p.m. onwards via zoom platform. Mr. Kelum Priyantha, Senior Manager Marketing in Business Development of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC was the guest speaker of the session. Mr. Kelum shared her expertise and knowledge of marketing ethics related to telecommunication industry and the session was fruitful.
A guest lecture on ‘Modern HR Trends’ organized by the HRM specialization area was successfully held on15th of February 2019 from 9.00 a.m. to 12 .00 noon at MFLT 06 with the participation of students and staff. The lecture was conducted by Major Janaka Witharana, Deputy General Manager, Human Resources, Brandix Apparel Solutions Limited. This provided students with experiential knowledge on practical implementation of Human Resource Management and future job opportunities available in the apparel industry.
“Brand Elite- Experience Sharing Forum”, the fourth session of the branding workshop series organized by the Department of Marketing, University of Ruhuna took place on 02 nd February 2021 at 3.00 P.M onwards via zoom platform. Mr. Sanjeewa Ganegoda, Production Director of Herbline Company was the resource person of the session. Mr. Sanjeewa Ganegoda has shared the success story of Herb Line brand during Covid- 19 pandemic, and it was an interactive and fruitful session.
The Department of Accountancy and the Department of Finance organized a Capital Market Awareness session with the support of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) on 21 st December 2022 at the Faculty. Around 150 students and 10 academics attended the session. Mr. Tushara Jayaratne, Director- External Relations and Capital Market Education of the SEC conducted the session. Ms. Sheena Gooneratne, Mr. Nimal Kumarasinghe, and Ms. Ravisha de Silva were also present at the session representing the SEC. The Dean of the Faculty Prof. P.A.P. Samantha Kumara delivered the welcome speech. Dr. Manjula Wanniarachchige,Head/ Department of Finance delivered the vote of thanks. In line with the HRM 31413 - Industrial Relations and Labor Law course, the Department of HRM hosted a guest lecture titled "Labor Law in the Organizational Context." This enlightening session was organized with the purpose of providing practical understanding to undergraduate students specializing in Human Resource Management at the 3000 level. Our guest speakers, Mrs. N.U.W. Rathnayake, Senior Labor Officer, and Mrs. W.D.D.S. Dharmapala, Labor Officer from the District Labor Office Matara, shared their profound expertise and real-world experiences, shedding light on the pragmatic application of labor law within organizational settings. This session was successfully held on 9th August 2023, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at MFLT 2B, creating a meaningful learning experience for our students.
The third session of the Marketing Ethics workshop series organized by the Circle of Marketing was held via Zoom on the 22nd of July 2022, from 3:00 p.m. onwards. The session's guest speaker was Mrs. Isuru Wijeratne, Assistant Brand Manager at Allianz Insurance Lanka Ltd. Mrs. Isuru offered her knowledge and experiences in the area of marketing ethics, and the session was quite productive and interactive.
The Circle of HRM organized “Department Welcome 2019”, for welcoming new students to the Human Resource Management specialization area. As such, the official welcoming of new comers was held on 21stof May 2019 at the MFLT 02 with the participation of academic staff and the HRM major undergraduates. The welcoming ceremony featuring speeches from the Head of the Department and the office bearers of the Circle of HRM had been continuing for duration of one hour.
Thrive for a successful career, career Guidance workshop was organized by the Department of Human Resource Management in collaboration with Charted Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) on 30 th November 2022 from 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm at MFLT 4. Mr Chandralal Liyanage, Management and HR consultant/lecturer/HR Professional, Dr. Heather Fernando, Management and HR Consultant/Corporate Trainer, Lecturer, Ms Chathuri Wimalanaga, Certified HR Professional, Ms Dilrukshi Rajapakshe, International Certified Corporate Trainer attended to the session as guest speakers. During the program, experts share their insights and expertise with students and mock interviews and Q & A sessions were held at the end of the program.
"Entrepreneurial Dialogue 2019" organized by the Entrepreneurship Study Circle for the 1000 level students was successfully held on 26th of June, 2019 at the faculty premises. Mr. W K Chandima, Mr. Nimal Giganage, and Ms. Supuli Sililari Karunarathne were the resource persons of the session and, they were able to make the environment more conducive. The students were keen in interacting with the each throughout the session, thus, resulting in a massive success in the workshop.
A group of first-year undergraduates from the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, organized the "Open Heart Banquet" almsgiving program. The event took place on 30th December 2023, at the Cancer Ward of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. Students provided breakfast for the patients undergoing treatment at the Karapitiya Cancer Hospital. Additionally, they provided essential supplies to the Ruhunu Lama Niwasaya in Galle.
An awareness session on scholarships in Japan organized by the Department of Finance, Faculty of Management and Finance, was successfully conducted on the 17th of May 2023. Approximately 120 students and 6 academics attended the session. The guest speaker of the session was Senior Professor (Chair) A.D Karunarathne, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo. He shared his valuable insights into Japanese education and offered a firsthand account of the educational environment and opportunities available in Japan. Furthermore, Mr. Sathish Perere, a representative from The University of Tokyo in Japan also attended the session. He presented a comprehensive overview of the scholarships available in Japan, providing in-depth information on eligibility criteria, application procedures, and the benefits of studying in Japan. The session commenced with a warm welcome and an introductory speech delivered by Dr. Manjula K. Wanniarachchige, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance. Mr. Kasun Harshana, the Temporary Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Finance delivered the vote of thanks.
ADCON 2019 Technical Workshop
The Circle of Marketing is going to conduct a 2 day workshop for final year undergraduates on Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) on 25th of July, and 08th of August 2018 respectively. The workshop will provide participants with an understanding of SEM, the skills to prepare data, run an analysis, troubleshoot problems, and interpret estimates and fit indices.

The Department of Human Resource Management in collaboration with MintHRM (Infoseek Private Limited) held a physical workshop on Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) for our undergraduate students specializing in HRM as a part of the 10 days inclusive sessions to enhance their skills on the HRIS application. The workshop was held on 20th July 2023 from 09:00 am to 12:30 pm at the computer lab in the Faculty of Management and Finance. The workshop was graced by the Co-Founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. The students were able to acquire hands-on experience on the HRIS under the guidance of two resource persons and five session instructors from MintHRM. The knowledge and skills acquired through this workshop have undoubtedly had a significant impact on our students' understanding of HRIS.
The Department of Finance organized a guest lecture, giving a great opportunity to the students of the Faculty of Management and Finance to get familiar with Microsoft Power BI. The session was conducted by Mr. Lasantha Gamage, the managing director of LDW Accounting and Business Service Pty Ltd in Perth, Australia. He is an expert in large ERP systems and the Microsoft Office suite, having been exposed to the health service, mining and gas, manufacturing, and construction sectors. The session was held on 18 th November 2022 via the Zoom meeting platform and it was a highly successful session in sharing knowledge and experience on data analysis using Microsoft Power BI.
"IFODLC 2022" is an inter-faculty orator, dance, and literature competition organised by the Cultural Center of the University of Ruhuna. The students from the Faculty of Management and Finance participated in the competition, representing the faculty. We congratulate the students who brought the win to the Faculty of Management and Finance with great pleasure. Gayani Rajapakshe, a first-year undergraduate in the Faculty of Management and Finance, who participated in the literature competition under the category of "Short Stories", has been able to bring 1 st place to the Faculty of Management and Finance. Further, G.A. Binuli Yashali Perera, a first-year undergraduate in the faculty of Management and Finance, who participated in the literature competition under the category of "Lyrics Writing", has been able to bring 2 nd place to the Faculty of Management and Finance.
The second session of the Marketing Ethics workshop series organized by the Circle of
Marketing, was held on 5 th July 2022 from 11.00 a.m. onwards via Zoom. Mr. Akila Gunarathna who is the Head of Finance at Resus Energy PLC was the resource person of the session. Mr. Gunarathna shared his experiences and expertise in the field of marketing ethics and it was a very fruitful and interactive experience sharing session.
Department of Human Resource Management and Infoseek Pvt Ltd collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on HRIS “On and Above Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and fourth year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The first session was held on 11th August 2021 from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm via zoom. The resource person of the session was the Co-founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. The Head of the Department of HRM, lecturers and more than 140 pre-registered students in the Department of HRM participated in the session.
A panel discussion on ‘making most out of internships’, organized by the Department of Marketing at the Faculty of Management and Finance for final-year undergraduates was conducted via Zoom on 06 th of April 2021. The session was rolled out to provide the undergraduates with an opportunity to listen to the professional career narratives of three proud products of the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance at University of Ruhuna. As such, Mr. Ashoka Liyanage from TV Derana, Mrs. Oshadee Gunasekara from Singer Sri Lanka PLC, and Mr. Ruwan Wickramaarachchi from CBL group participated in the panel discussion as panelists.
The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship conducted a guest speech via Zoom on 14 th of March 2021 at 10.00 a.m., with the participation of 4000 level semester I students, who are specialized in Entrepreneurship. Dr. Ravi Liyanage, a leading corporate entrepreneur in Sri Lanka served as the resource person of the session, and the speech was centered on the theme “a way to develop career path and adapt to the organizational culture within internship”. The session provided some valuable insights into the internship opportunities available for undergraduates and how to capitalize on them for a better career path.

‘Outbound Training - 2022’ was an action and activity based behavioral training intervention for students leadership and personality development based on experiential learning methodology of learning through fun and experience. Session was organized by the Department of Human Resource Management in collaboration of Career Guidance Unit held on 16 th & 17 th of June 2022 from 6.30 am to 9.30 pm in the university premises. The session was opened for the final year undergraduates in the
Department of Human Resources Management. The program was streamlined with adventure and challenging Team Activities where students had to go through obstacles and work together as a team to overcome challenges and learn from their experience, feelings and reflection. The main focus with the Outbound Training approach was to impart learning on organizational needs such as Leadership, Strategic Thinking, Conflict Management, Team Building and Effective Communication.

As a result of collaboration between Mosvold-Martinus Foundation and the University of Ruhuna, the main library has received ten laptops. With these resources, the main library at University of Ruhuna has started a laptop lending service to provide undergraduates studying at Wellamadama premises with an opportunity to use a laptop within the library. The undergraduates can borrow a laptop for three hours at a time, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on weekdays. The laptops can be loaned at the Sri Lanka Collection of the main library, and students need their university ID card or the record book to borrow a laptop.
The Consortium of Sri Lankan Academic Libraries (CONSAL) has established a Centralized Document Delivery Service through British Library Document Supply Service, with funding from the UGC, Sri Lanka. This service is coordinated by the Library, the University of Colombo with the objective of catering to students, the academic and non-academic staff of the fifteen state universities functioning under UGC. An online session on “What is a Qualitative Study? What is its rationale?” was organized by Dr. G.T. W Sriyani, Senior Lecturer, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management and Finance, as a partial fulfillment of the course unit on ENT 41223: Research Methodology. The session was opened for all the undergraduates in the Faculty of Management and Finance with Prof. Danture Wickramasinghe, Chair in Management Accounting and the Director of the PhD program in Accounting and Finance at Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, UK as the resource person. The session was conducted online via Zoom on 03rd June 2021 from 2.30 to 5.00pm, with the participation of 174 undergraduates from the whole faculty.
The ELTA-ELSE team at the faculty conducted a workshop on 02 nd of October 2020 at the Mini Conference Hall, Department of Economics, University of Ruhuna to develop the curriculum for the proposed photography for socio-emotional skills course. Mr. Prageeth. M. Aluthwattha from University of Kelaniya, Mr. Nalaka Wijewardhane from Sri Palee Campus, University of Colombo participated in the workshop as the resource persons. The workshop assisted to bring and scrutinize the diverse perspectives of the participants in a common forum.
The Circle of Accounting conducted a series of online sessions on research professionalism, namely INQUEST 1.0 with the aim of promoting a research culture among undergraduates at the faculty. In INQUEST 1.0, six sessions on different aspects of research were successfully conducted by an experienced panel of lecturers of the Department of Accounting and Finance during September-November 2021. Each session had a participation of more than 100 students representing the Faculty of Management and Finance, UoR and other universities of Sri Lanka.
The Department of Marketing conducted a virtual session via Zoom on 20 th of January from 4.15 p.m. to 6.45 p.m., under the theme of "preparing undergraduates for the job market in a new normal/post-pandemic context". The session was targeted at undergraduates, and intended to educate them on how to cope up with challenges in the ever-changing corporate environment. Ms. Rovina Vandersay, Ms. Yasasi Bandaranayake, and Mr. Chinthaka Chathuraga representing Nestle Lanka served as the resource persons, and 229 unique participants took part in the session, signaling that the session was an absolute success.
The sixth session of ‘Meet the marketers’ online webinar series, organized by the Department of Marketing, University of Ruhuna, took place on 29th June 2021 via zoom from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The session was delivered by the convincing speaker, instructor and the famous sales trainer Mr. D.D. Samanthilake [National Sales Manager of Oriflame Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.] on the topic ‘digital world and event marketing’. The extended session was instrumental in enlightening the undergraduates on the versatility of digital marketing and how this versatile discipline could be adapted to event marketing.

The Circle of Marketing has planned to conduct a series of guest lectures, namely 'Digital Edge 2.0' under the theme of' Digitalize with Experts&', to provide students with a practical perspective to digitalization and its implications on marketing. The very first guest lecture of the Digital Edge 2.0 was conducted on 25th October 2021 from 5.00 pm onwards via Zoom, with the
participation of marketing major undergraduates at the faculty. The session was centered on 'Introduction to Digital Marketing' and continued for one hour, with the active involvement of the participants. The guest speaker, Mr. Nisal De Silva, Director of Digital Strategy at Cinnamon Hotels, a certified digital lecturer in Sri Lanka, shared his expertise and experiences on the latest technologies in the context of digital marketing, making the session fruitful.
A guest lecture on “HR practices for Contemporary Organization Context and Future Trends” organized by the HRD circle was successfully held on 28th of July, 2019 from 8.30 a.m. to 12 .30 noon at MFLT 02 with the participation of students in HRM specialization area and the staff. MR Senaka Muhandiramge acted as the resource person of the guest lecture. The guest lecture provided students with experiential knowledge about contemporary organizational HR practices and future HR trends in the world of HRM.
“Decide your next step-The right way to choose your future career” guest lecture organized by the Department of Human Resource Management was held on 22 nd September 2022 from 9.30 am to 10.30 am via Zoom. This program is organized to guide 2000-level undergraduates to select their specializing area in the forthcoming semester. The session was conducted by Keshavi Puswewala Senior HR Business Partner – Corporate Functions and T&O & Employer Brand Lead – Unilever Sri Lanka.
In parallel with the නැනාභිවර්ශා second anniversary celebration of the Department of Human Resource Management, the Circle of Human Resource Development organized a CSR project on 01 st of November 2021 in an attempt to assist rural schools with insufficient facilities to carry out their educational activities smoothly. In here, almost all HRM-specialized students actively contributed to this through collecting storybooks/other stationery items and donating them to the students at Ambilipitiya Sudarshana Vidyalaya and MR/ Sumana Junior School. Considering the present situation triggered by the Covid -19 pandemic, we took necessary actions to limit the participation in implementing this initiative.
In line with the HRM 22413- Safety and Health Management subject, The Department of Human Resource Management organized a guest lecture on " Health and safety management practices in an organizational context. The session was organized with the purpose of providing the knowledge and understanding of 2000-level human resource management specialized undergraduates regarding how health and safety management practice in a real organizational setting. Mrs Thilini H.K. Liyanage, District Factory Inspecting Engineer, Department of Labour participated as a guest speaker in the session. The session was successfully held on 23rd January 2023 from 9. 00 am to 11 00 am at MFLT 2B.

The Faculty of Management and Finance organized the "Faculty Day 2019" on 30th of January 2019 at university playground. The “Faculty Day 2019” kicked off at 8.00 in the morning and continued till 6.00 in the evening. The event was a great success with the active involvement of the participants; academics, non-academics, and undergraduates. Through providing an ideal platform to break the wheel of monotony for a while, the event helped participants to strike a balance between routine and extra-curricular activities.

on 1 st November 2022 at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna.
The magazine features the perspectives of well-known academics, industry experts, graduates, and undergraduatesfrom local and international context. The HR Disclosure builds a platform for the HRM stakeholders to pen down their perspectives while also being a useful source for the readers to fill their knowledge gap. The editorial board of ‘The HR Disclosure’ magazine anticipate to uplift the quality of the magazine to an all-inclusive, well-known magazine among the HR practitioners.
The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a two-day study tour to Eco-Feel Foods (Pvt) Ltd, Matale, Athreya Ayurvedic Ashram, Habarana, Mutu Village, Habarana, Heritance Kandalama, Dambulla, and Kalundewa Retreat, Dambulla on 27th and 28th of February 2019. The study tour was organized under the subjects of Social and Green Entrepreneurship, and Tourism and Entrepreneurship to provide 3000 level undergraduates major in Entrepreneurship with an opportunity to track the social, green and tourism-related business opportunities in Sri Lanka
The Department of Finance organized a guest lecture, giving a great opportunity to the students of the Faculty of Management and Finance to get familiar with Microsoft Power BI. The session was conducted by Mr. Lasantha Gamage, the managing director of LDW Accounting and Business Service Pty Ltd in Perth, Australia. He is an expert in large ERP systems and the Microsoft Office suite, having been exposed to the health service, mining and gas, manufacturing, and construction sectors. The session was held on 18 th November 2022 via the Zoom meeting platform and it was a highly successful session in sharing knowledge and experience on data analysis using Microsoft Power BI.
"Sada Sakmana Musical Event 2018" organized by Faculty of Management and Finance consecutively for the second time in collaboration with Southern Provincial Council Cultural Centre, on 08th August 2018, from 4.00 p.m to 6.00 p.m at the faculty premises. The event will provide academic, non-academic and students with a platform to exhibit their aesthetic talents and skills.
Leadership Training Program was designed to enhance students' leadership skills and foster personal development. The program utilized an experiential learning approach, emphasizing the importance of learning through engaging activities and enjoyable experiences. Session was organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship in collaboration of Career Guidance Unit held on 10th May 2023 from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm in the university premises. The session was targeted for the 3000 level and 4000 level undergraduates in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. The main focus with the leadership training program was to impart learning on organizational needs such as to improve self- confidence, personality development, team building and effective communication.
"Entrepreneurial Dialogue 2022" organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship and the Entrepreneurship Study Circle for the 2000 level and 3000 level entrepreneurship specialized students was successfully held on 01 st November, 2022 at the faculty premises. Mr. Dulanjana Withanage, CEO of Jack Fruit Ceylon Pvt Ltd and Mrs. Anusha Warnakula, CEO of Susinidu baby care products were the resource persons of the session and, they were able to make the environment more conducive. The students were keen in interacting with the each throughout the session, thus, resulting in a massive success in the workshop.
Fun Evening – happy Clips, entertaining event successfully held on 01 st November 2022 from 2.00 PM onwards for 2000 level and 3000 level undergraduates of Department of Management and Entrepreneurship at the faculty premises. Entrepreneurship Study Circle organized this entertaining event to create a platform for entrepreneurship specialized undergraduates to build collaborative behaviors with others. One major objective of this event and participating in activities is to learn problem-solving, strategy, trust, calculated risk-taking and how to adapt to unforeseen issues.
Department of Human Resource Management and MintHRM collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on HRIS “On and Above HRIS-Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and fourth-year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The seventh session was held on the 13th of October 2021 from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm via zoom. The resource person of the session was the Co-Founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. Lecturers of the Department of HRM and more than 125 pre-registered students in the Department of HRM have participated in the session.
“How to Amp Up Your LinkedIn Profile” guest lecture was organized by the Circle of Human Resource Development, University of Ruhuna to guide final undergraduates regarding how to manage their professional profile effectively on the LinkedIn platform. The session was conducted by Mr Adrian Fernando, Talent Consulting Specialist at EMAPTA on 5 th August 2021 from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm via Zoom with more than 250+ participants.
A stakeholder meeting on the proposed Bachelor of Business Administration in Tourism and Hospitality Management Degree program was held on 30 th of July 2020 from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon at the Boardroom, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, with the participation of nearly 20 experts representing both the academia and the industry. The primary\ objective of the workshop was to obtain the expert inputs to develop the proposed degree program, which would meet the needs in the field of tourism and hospitality management.
The second session of the branding workshop series organized by the Department of Marketing, University of Ruhuna took place on 11 th January 2021 at 7.00 P.M onwards via zoom platform. The Circle of Human Resource Development, University of Ruhuna successfully conducted a research experience sharing session titled “My Dissertation Journey” for the final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Management and Finance to discuss how time, resources, and interests can be used to benefit the final year dissertation. Ms.Nisansala Maduwanthi, Lecturer (probationary), Department of Human Resource Management, University of Ruhuna, hosted the session on 11th of June 2021, from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. More than 200 undergraduates participated in the virtual session. Within an hour, she recounted her undergraduate research experience, and the following time was set aside to address students' queries on final year dissertation.
Annual General Meeting of Circle of Human Resource Development was successfully held on 2nd of June 2021 from 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm online. In this meeting executive officers were appointed for the academic year 2021/22 and discussed initiatives for executions throughout the coming year. Prof. P.A.P.S.Kumara, the Dean, Faculty of Management and Finance, Dr. B.L.Galhena, the Head, Department of HRM, Dr. R.M.Rathnayaka, Senior Lecturer, Department of HRM, and Mr. R.M.D.D.Rathnayake, Senior Lecturer, Department of HRM addressed the meeting. Other Senior, Junior and temporary lecturers of the Department of HRM and third and fourth year undergraduates of the Department of HRM attended the meeting.
A consultative workshop on proposed Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Business Law Degree program at the faculty was held on 23 rd of July 2020 from 8.45 a.m. to 3.45 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, Colombo 07, with the objective of obtaining professional expertise to expand the proposed syllabus to match with the graduate profile, objectives and outcomes of the program. Professor Wasantha Seneviratne, Department of Public & International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo and Dr. Nishantha Sampath Punchihewa, Senior Lecturer, Department of Commercial Law, Faculty of Law, University ofColombo participated in the workshop as the resource persons.
The Circle of Marketing held a virtual session on “Marketing Ethics and Corporate Social
Responsibility” on 25 th of June, 2022 from 4.00 p.m to 5.00 p.m via Zoom. The session was conducted by Mr. Thisara Meegahawaththa, Brand Manager, Freelan Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd. In this knowledge sharing forum, he discussed the value of Corporate Social Responsibility for organizations and how marketing students might enter the field as ethical marketers.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the University of Ruhuna (UoR) and Charted Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) was signed at the Vice-Chancellors’ office, University of Ruhuna on 18 th of January 2021. The objective of signing this MoU was to commence a partnership on educational cooperation between UoR and CIPM. Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, the Vice-Chancellor of UoR, Professor P. A. P. Samantha Kumara, the Dean, Faculty of Management and Finance, Dr. B. L. Galhena, the Head, Department of Human Resource Management, academic staff of the Department of Human Resource Management, Mr. U. A. C. Obeysekere, the Chief Executive Officer of CIPM, and the Executive Council members of CIPM participated in this occasion.
The second session of the 'Meet the Marketers'; online webinar series organized by the Department of Marketing was rolled out on 13 th May 2020, with the participation of more than 100 participants. Mrs. Dulanganee Mathugama, Brand Manager at Hemas Manufacturing conducted the session on the recently implemented digital driven advertising campaign for the new Clogard tooth gel variant. This interactive session paved the way for the undergraduates to learn and question the aspects relevant to practically implementing a trendjacking campaign via social media.

The session was successfully held on 6th September 2021 from 9.00 am to 11.00 am via zoom. Session conducted by Dr. Manjula K. Wanniarachchige, Senior Lecturer, Department of Accounting and Finance, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna.
A guest lecture on “Corporate Entrepreneurship” was organized by Dr. Fauzul Mafasiya. The session was successfully held online via Zoom on 30th August 2021 from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. The session was opened for the undergraduates in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. Mr. Prasanna Liyanage, Chief Executive Officer of Reflexions Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. was conducted the Lecture as the resource person. Head of the Department, academic staff, and the undergraduates of the department participated in the session.
The Department of Marketing is in the process of conducting a series of online workshops to provide students with exposure to the industry practices. The workshop series will be organized in partnership with some reputed brands ,which have implemented signatory campaigns during the past few years. The very first session of the series on Signal Sina Bo Wewa campaign, hosted by Mr. Chetaka Gunawardane, Senior Brand Manager (Lifeboy) of Unilever Sri Lanka was held on 28th of April 2020, with the participation of more than 100 participants representing undergraduates from different universities in Sri Lanka.
The 2nd webinar on ‘investing in the stock market’ organized by the Circle of Accounting was conducted on 19th November 2021 from 3.00PM to 4.00PM via zoom. The session had a good level of participation of BBA undergraduates of the faculty.
The webinar was themed as "a practical approach to invest in the Share market" and continued for one hour. The guest speaker, Priyantha Heenpella, Executive, Colombo Stock Exchange shared the updates and experiences of Investing on the stock market.
HRM specialized undergraduates had an opportunity to take part in a two-day field visit to Hirdaramani KNIT Mihila, Agalawatta, and Academy of Adventure, Belihuloya during 28thFebruary to 1st of March 2019. The field visit was organized by the Circle of HRD to provide students with an exposure to HRM in practice (Hirdaramani KNIT Mihila, Agalawatta), and engraving students’ latent skills through offering them with a platform to engage in adventurous activities (Academy of Adventure, Belihuloya).
Circle of Human Resource Development, Department of Human Resource Management organized a year-end intra- faculty volleyball championship on 28th December 2022 from 1.00- 6.00 pm at the university of Ruhuna main stadium. By representing each department of the Faculty of Management and Finance student team competed in the volleyball championship and the championship was won by the 1st year team of the Faculty of Management and Finance in three sets to one.

Gnanarathna, I.D.S.N. Madushani, P.M.V.A. Dissanayake, A.K. Denagamage, M.M.T. Nayanika, I.N.U. Rajapaksha, A.L.G. Nisansala, D.K.Y.S. Dikkumbura, T.C. Wanigasekara, W.A.M.M. Weerakoon, O.A.D. Indumini, Y.H.I.S. Yapa Bandara, W.M.T. Thushmal, Munasinghelage S.V.M, N.S. Senavirathna, L.H.G.O.R. Thathsarani, S.G.D.S. Gunasekara, and M.W. In line with the Staff Development Action Plan of the Faculty of Management and Finance, the faculty conducted two sessions under the theme of “Introduction to Mediation and Moderation Analysis: A Regression-Based Approach”. The first session was held on 25 th March 2021 at the Faculty Computer Lab from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon with the participation of 36 academic staff members. Among the participants, 32 were from the Faculty of Management and Finance while the rest was from the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Agriculture. The second session was conducted on 08 th April 2021 from 8.30 am to 12.00 noon and 23 academic staff members participated in this session. Of the participants, 21 were from the Faculty of Management and Finance and 2 were from the Faculty of Agriculture. Mr. W.M.R. Laksiri from the Faculty of Management and Finance served as the resource person of the both sessions while the organizing was coordinated by Dr. G.T. Wasantha Sriyani, the SDC coordinator of the Faculty of Management and Finance. The two sessions were very advantageous for the participants to enhance their data analytical skills with SPSS, so that assisting in writing an impactful quantitative research paper.
“Ethics vs Businesses” was another important session of the Marketing Ethics guest lecture series organized by the Circle of Marketing, Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The session was held on 26 th July 2022 at 4.00 p.m. onwards via zoom platform. Ms. Kaushali Kusumpala, Director Marketing, Atlas Axillia Company Pvt. Ltd. was the guest speaker of the session. Ms. Kaushali shared her expertise and knowledge of marketing ethics related to stationary industry and the session was fruitful.
The faculty launched a Wi-Fi network, so that providing users with a fertile opportunity to experience the wireless broadband connectivity for their academic purposes. The project was funded by Ministry of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education. The official ceremony in this regard was held on 25th of November 2019 at the faculty premises in the presence of senior professor Sujeewa Amarasena, Vice Chancellor, University of Ruhuna, Professor Saman Chandana, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Ruhuna, and Dr. Thusitha Gunawardana, Dean, Faculty of Management and Finance. The glamour of the event was enhanced by the live musical performance items of the students.
Accounting and Finance Industry Forum (AFinFO-2019), organized by the Department of Accounting and Finance together with National Economic Council (NEC) of Sri Lanka, was held on 25th of July, 2019 (08.00-17.00) at the University of Ruhuna. AFinFO-2019 targeted at strengthening the link between academia and the industry through bringing the leading policymakers, renowned businesspersons and academics in the field together to create a fruitful dialog. Prof. Lalith P. Samarakoon (Secretary General-NEC), Prof. Hareendra Dissabandara (Deputy Secretary General-NEC), Mr. C. J. P. Siriwardana (Deputy Secretary General-NEC), Dr. Ravi Liyanage (Chariman/CEO Raigam Group), and Mr. Raja Senanayake (Director, Serendib Finance PLC) delivered speeches at the event.
An experience sharing session was organized by the Dept. of Management and Entrepreneurship on 26 th January, 2022 for all the undergraduates who are specializing under the Dept. of Management and Entrepreneurship. Mr. M.A.Chathushka, Founder of Aqua Nature Arts, who was also a proud product of the department served as the resource person and the session was organized by Prof. Sunethra Perera.
A two-day workshop organized by the Department of Marketing as a partial requirement of the course; Strategic Marketing, for the final year students was held on 8th and 9th of November, 2019 at the faculty premises. The aim of the workshop was to assist entrepreneurs from the Southern Province of Sri Lanka on marketing their products and services and, further, to mentor them in achieving their future goals. After scrutinizing the nature and the operations at the selected small business firms, the students developed and presented strategic marketing plans for the respective ventures on the first day of the workshop. The second day focused on implementation of a joint project with the involvement of the Department of Marketing, Samurdhi Authority, and the Central bank of Sri Lanka.
Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a one-day field visit to Jetwing Kaduruketha and Jetwing Yala to provide students with practical exposure on Agrotourism and their respective green practices. Through participating in the field visit, students had a chance to see how tourism and entrepreneurship work in tandem in the real world. As such, the field visit enabled students to enhance their knowledge of tourism by linking what they learnt in the classroom with practical applications.
A workshop on how to use Moodle/LMS effectively, targeted at academic staff at the faculty was conducted via Zoom on 16th of May 2020 from 4.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., with the participation of more than 25 academic staff at the faculty. The prime objective of the workshop was to provide participants with knowledge on the advanced features of Moodle, so that they would not struggle to use LMS effectively. The session was conducted by Mr. Chandana Pushpakumara/ Instructor in Computer Technology, Mr. Samantha R. Liyanage/ Instructor in Computer Technology and Mr. Bhathiya Thambiliyagoda /programmer cum System Analyst.
A workshop for the faculty development was held on 09th of May, 2018 at the faculty board room, basically, with the intention of discussing the strategic plan of the university and the new degree programmes which are going to be introduced in the near future. The workshop provided academic staff memebers with a platform to share their diverse views.
