Organized by the Circle of Business Management under the guidance of department lecturers, the visit took place on 30th December 2024 and included tours of three prominent organizations, providing students with invaluable insights into diverse industrial processes.

The visit commenced at the Koggala BOI Zone, where students explored the operations of two leading companies: Star Garments Pvt Ltd. and Ocean Voyager Pvt Ltd. At Star Garments, students delved into the intricacies of the apparel production chain, gaining a deeper understanding of the manufacturing processes involved in the garment industry. Meanwhile, Ocean Voyager Pvt Ltd. offered a fascinating look into boat manufacturing, showcasing the complexities of this specialized sector. These visits were made possible through the efforts of Mr. Ranathunga, Zone Director at the Export Processing Zone in Koggala, and Mrs. Sajani Atapattu, Industrial Relationship Officer, who played pivotal roles in coordinating the factory tours.

The Department of Business Management extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Janaka De Silva, Plant HR Manager at Star Garments Pvt Ltd., and Mrs. Nilangani, along with her team at Ocean Voyager Pvt Ltd., for their exceptional hospitality and insightful guidance. Their prompt and detailed responses to students’ questions greatly enhanced the learning experience.

Following the visits to the BOI Zone, the students proceeded to their final destination, the Palm Oil Mill in Nakiyadeniya, operated by Watawala Plantations PLC. Here, they were introduced to the intricate processes of oil extraction and refining. The visit was facilitated by Mr. Thanushka, Mill Manager, and his team, who provided comprehensive explanations and demonstrations, further enriching the students’ understanding of the industry.

This field visit was more than just an observational tour; it served as an eye-opening experience for the students, offering them a glimpse into the corporate world and the operational dynamics of various manufacturing sectors. The Department of Business Management expresses its deepest appreciation to the lecture panel for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the planning and execution of this initiative.

As the students reflect on the knowledge gained during this visit, they look forward to applying these insights in their future roles as business managers, ready to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the corporate world. The success of this field visit underscores the department’s commitment to providing students with practical, real-world learning experiences that complement their academic training.
