The Circle of Human Resource Development (Circle of HRD) of the Department of Human Resource Management at the University of Ruhuna successfully concluded Athwela 2025 – Phase 5 on 25th July 2025. This annual CSR initiative focused on uplifting the educational experience of students and fostering a sense of encouragement for their future aspirations.
This phase centred on MR/Sri Medhankara Maha Vidyalaya, a rural school facing significant resource constraints, with 250 students and 35 teachers. Recognizing the need for support, the project provided books, stationery, and school materials, aiming to ease the burden on students and enhance their learning environment
The main program was conducted at the school premises, bringing together the university undergraduates, lecturers, teachers, and students in a collective effort to make the event meaningful. Contributions were gathered through the generous support of donors and well-wishers, whose assistance played a crucial role in realizing the objectives of this phase. more

Guest Lecture– Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a guest lecture series under the course ENT 31203: Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship for 3000-level undergraduates specializing in Entrepreneurship at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The series, held in July 2025 under the theme “Building Legally Sound Business Ventures,” featured three insightful sessions led by Mr. A.J.M. Samantha Jayasundara, a senior lawyer with extensive experience in the field.
The lecture series aimed to give students practical knowledge of the legal challenges entrepreneurs encounter. Through interactive sessions, students discussed real-world legal issues, reviewed local case studies, and engaged directly with the resource person. This hands-on approach connected theory with practice, strengthened legal understanding, and encouraged critical thinking, preparing students to make well-informed decisions in their entrepreneurial careers.

Stepping into a New Era with Business Technology in Higher Education

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, successfully organized an inspiring and future-focused online awareness session titled “Stepping into a New Era with Business Technology in Higher Education” on 23rd July 2025 at 7.00 p.m. The session was conducted by Professor Chaminda N. Wickramasinghe, who brought valuable insights into the evolving landscape where technology and entrepreneurship intersect to reshape business education.

Targeting 2000-level undergraduate students, the session emphasized the critical role of business technology in shaping the future of industries, highlighting how advancements such as Artificial Intelligence and data analytics are driving innovation and transforming organizational practices. Participants were introduced to a variety of prospective career paths in the technology-driven business world and gained a deeper understanding of the skills required to thrive in a rapidly changing global market.more

PRESCO’25 – A Gateway to Professional Futures

PRESCO’25 is a career fair organized by the Circle of Marketing of the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna which was successfully held on the 29th of July 2025. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of the university, with the aim of bridging the gap between undergraduates and the corporate world. This event was made possible through the invaluable support of six prominent industry partners as DSI, Durdans Hospital, Nippon Paint, INSEE Cement, Vallibel Finance, and Ernst & Young (EY). The primary objective of PRESCO’25 was to provide students with direct exposure to leading companies and current industry trends. The event was successfully concluded, drawing active participation from both students and industry representatives. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees reflected the event’s impact and affirmed its value and it encouraged to initiate PRESCO’26 with even greater enthusiasm and scale.

Two day field visit was organized in collaboration with the Circle of Business Management on 21st and 22nd July 2025 and this study tour created a remarkable opportunity for students to bridge theory with real-world practice and during the journey, undergraduates explored diverse industry operations at:

SPARK '25 Ignites Leadership Program

SPARK '25 Ignites Leadership Program

The Department of Business Management proudly hosted SPARK '25, a full-day leadership development event held on July 15, 2025, at the university gymnasium with the support of CUG and external sponsors. Aimed at enhancing leadership, teamwork, communication, and self-confidence, the event featured interactive games, group discussions, and trust-building activities. It was attened 30 undergraduates and all of them were voluntieers and at the evening session the organizing team members also joined the program. The participants  gained real-world leadership experience through fun, hands-on learning.

The “Ridma Yathra” is an entertainment event organized by undergraduate of the Department of Business Management, University of Ruhuna with collaboration of CGU and Thirtha was held on 09th July 2025. It focuses on increasing the student and lecture’s artistic ability, group dances, and interactive sessions, fostering creativity, cultural expression, and student engagement. This event was targeted all communitis in the university including undergraduate, academic and non - academic staff who are interested in cultural art.

International Conference on Management and Economics

ICME 2025, under the theme of “Entrepreneurial Bricolage: Steering Volatile Markets through Improvised Strategies and Innovative Thinking,” aims to create a forum for academics, researchers, and practitioners across the globe to debate and share their knowledge on business institutes, particularly related to the ongoing global recession and their impact on the economy and contemporary management practices.

Idea Cloud 2025

Idea Cloud is a business concept competition where tertiary students and school-level students can pitch their creative ideas that propose alternatives for social and economic development in Sri Lanka. The competition will take place with the International Conference on Management and Economics for the sixth time in 2025. The main objective of the competition is to develop a platform to encourage innovative entrepreneurial ideas of the students. In this competition, the ideas can be new business models, startups, infrastructural modifications, or products which is the outcome of greater creative and innovative efforts of young generation. Concepts that can serve as the basis for a new business but have not yet been commercialized are eligible. Participants are invited to submit original concepts for new products, business models, businesses, or infrastructure improvements.

20th Academic Sessions And 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony

Academic Sessions is an annual forum organized by University of Ruhuna to share research findings of staff and students. The 20th Academic Sessions and 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony will be hosted by Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna in 2023. under the theme of “Intellectual and Entrepreneurial Thrust for a Resilient and Progressive Society”.  The Organizing Committee invites Abstracts and Extended Abstracts for oral/ poster presentations for the technical sessions. The submissions are limited to Academic/ Academic Supportive/ Administrative/ Non-Academic staff and students of the University of Ruhuna.

Faculty Day 2022

Faculty Day is a tradition that has been continuing in the faculty for the past years which is aimed at building a strong relationship between the academic members, students, academic supportive staff and non-academic staff. The faculty organizes the event with the support of Physical Education Unit and the Sports Advisory Board of the University of Ruhuna. The 2022 faculty day intends to provide a fruitful opportunity to the faculty to enjoy a day filled with entertaining events and sports.
