Dr. Tissa Hemaratne holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from the Open University of Sri Lanka, a Masters of Laws (LL.M) in Business Law from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, India. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in 2005 by the University of London on the submission of the thesis on Intellectual property and e-commerce in Sri Lanka. He joined the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship of the University of Ruhuna in September 2013 having previously served as a Senior Lecturer in Law at the Open University of Sri Lanka where he also held the position of Head of Department of the Department of Legal Studies. Prior to joining the Open University, he has served as a Government Teacher in Science and Mathematics. His main interests are in the area of Business Law and its interaction with other branches of law, especially with Intellectual Property Law. While his research has a particular focus on the legal protection of intellectual property in the digital world, in general he is interested in the area of access to knowledge. His additional interests include law and economics, law and medicine and law and agriculture.BOOKS AUTHORED
